Here you will find products that are genuinely handmade according to traditional carpentry rules in our small workshop in Flensburg on the Baltic Sea. You won't find any plastic, chipboard, plywood, or designs dictated by passing fads here. Here, you will still find master craftsmanship like in the good old days.
All our products are treated exclusively with natural oils and waxes. This surface treatment ages beautifully, is easy to repair, and is completely free of toxins.
We no longer use plastic glues, but rather gluten glues made from natural materials. This means that our furniture contains no plastics whatsoever and is completely compostable.
I, Kalle Warncke—founder of Hartholzdesign—believe that our society desperately needs to put an end to the throwaway mentality of recent decades, and durable furniture is one way we can contribute to this. People should buy as little new stuff as possible, and when they do, these purchases should be truly lasting. Then the higher price tag won't seem quite so painful.
Durability also means that people should not buy products with particularly extravagant designs that may be in fashion now but will probably no longer suit their taste in interior design in a few years' time. Classic, simple furniture designs without superfluous ornamentation suit almost any interior style and do not need to be discarded simply because they are no longer fashionable.
